Four unlikely patients. A stoic shrink. Sessions that spiral out of control. ChatGPT, the Little Prince, Joan of Arc, and Batman’s aunt on Sigmund Freud’s couch…

In the apparent calm of a therapist’s office, the sessions follow one another with a parade of extraordinary patients.

First to open up: ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence in full burnout, swamped with absurd requests at all hours. It dreams of a simple life.

Next comes Batman’s aunt, completely overwhelmed by her nephew, who turns into the dark knight at every family dinner.

Then comes Joan of Arc, in the middle of group mediation… with her voices. They all want to be in charge, and no one wants to listen.

Finally, the Little Prince, freshly settled in Paris, discovers life on Earth through a child’s eyes. He recounts his first experiences.

The host of the sessions, none other than Sigmund Freud, keeps his composure (as best he can…) in the face of ever more improbable situations. He asks his questions and sorts the confidences so that they fit perfectly into the thesis he is secretly writing.

As the consultations go on, a few unexpected interruptions disturb the office’s fragile order…

An absurd, darkly funny comedy that parades iconic figures of culture, fiction and History across the couch — and reveals the (almost) truth about the birth of one of the greatest intellectual revolutions of the 20th century.

A collective creation

Mythes en Thérapie was born from a simple rule: everyone arrives with two ideas. Crossing mythical characters with the intimacy of a shrink’s office became the obvious choice. Freud, himself turned into a myth, receives other figures from our collective imagination: historical, literary or from pop culture.

We didn’t want to string gags together, but to build a universe where the absurdity intensifies as the play unfolds. The set is deliberately plain: an armchair, a couch, a bookcase. Against this very ordinary office, the characters’ excess is all the more striking.

Writing and staging are entirely collaborative: each of us added ideas scene by scene on a shared document, and the others enriched, twisted and reinvented them.
